DREAM ISLAND — YOU DECIDE? (Wales)
I volunteer on Skomer Island. The work includes regularly cleaning the many inaccessible bays of the island. This photo shows rubbish we found in just one such bay. The island in the photo is Skokholm, referred to by famous Welsh naturalist R.M. Lockley as ‘Dream Island’. 12 million tonnes of marine litter and plastic pollution enter the seas every year. The Skomer Island team and Marine Conservation Zone staff worked diligently to remove this haul, but this is just 0.000008% of the litter which entered the oceans this year. Lockley may well need to rename his beautiful island ‘Nightmare Island’.
