YRE competition 2022- Honorable Mention -Single Photo Reportage (Age Category: 19–25)

This is a candid shot of a child working at welding at the age where he should have been having a life away from child labour, a life for a bright future, for education, nourishment, and self-health. Seeing this made me realise that even in this 21st century, an age we call modern, there are still these things going on, be it due to his own need for money for the family or for a way to get out of poverty. Seeing the young kid doing hard labour without even safety measures made me sad for he is not privileged enough to have his childhood like other fortunate ones. I had to get this shot to capture the emotions he had within. I don’t know where he is now or what kind of work he would be doing, but I wish to help such kids have a childhood and not labour due for any reasons. I hope this picture wakes up people in decision-making positions, who can help and give kids a bright future or whatever little help they need to have a better life. They are everywhere around us, we have to look out and provide them with much better opportunities.
